Did you ever see the lights in the house of someone which can lit automatically? You can call it "Dark Activated Lamp". Yes, it is very possible if you know a little about electronics. The necessary components to make this auto lights aren't too complicated.

You will be calm when encountered outside your house and forgot to turn on the lights of the terrace. Some people are afraid to let his house empty without any light because it is so prone to theft. Those who pass the house can also acknowledge that the owner of the house was not there at home so the lights are not turned on.

Relax, you only need to create a circuit as photos below.

Dark Activated Lamp Schematic

The value of each component is not need too critical and accurate. We can buy it at the nearest electronic store or via online. From a schematic diagram, we can figure out how the circuit work. As for the three resistors, R1, R2 and R3 form a voltage divider circuit to provide a small signal to the base of the transistor to saturated. You can use any small NPN transistor for Q1. D1 is a safety diode to prevent the transistor get damaged, because the relay will generate an inductive voltage spike after the transistor saturated.
Dark Activated Lamp layout

List of Components

  • R1 = LDR or Photo Resistor
  • R2 = 50k Potentiometer
  • R3 = 1k Resistor
  • D1 = 1N4001-1N4007
  • Q1 = 2N2222 or BC547
  • Relay depends on the power supply that we used. If you use 5V power supply, any relay with 5V to 6V could be used.
You connect the load e.g. a lamp to the relay pins. We can put up LDR outside the box to find out and regulate the intensity of the blackness in your place to activate the relay.

To be able to set the time of its life lamp , sliding the R2 pot corresponds to the approximate time that you want. You must ensure power rating that can be handled by the relay if the equipment that you will plug from the AC mains supply is switched on. X3 and X2 is the wago connector for attaching the load /lamps.
Don't forget to see mosquito repeller schematic.

Thanks for coming here.

Actually, many progammer for your microcontroller IC and according to which IC you prefer to use. If you like to use AVR microchip, you are likely ever heard about USBasp. Nothing special with this programmer from the others, but you could find this for just about 2 bucks on ebay. Despite about it's cheap price, this programmer is really good. It is small size and the important thing about UBSasp is free open source on hardware and software. It supports avrdude (WinAVR) as well. So you don't spend much money or time if you want to learn micronctroller especially with AVR. You could find any website which could teach you how to install and using it. Sometimes there are people have fun from build something for their hobby.

You don't have to ashamed about this, that's not just about to save money. We could find fun and joy when builds it ourself. Even your design don't looks professional, you must be happy to see your design is working and live. Actually, the circuit just needs one ATMega 8 IC and other cheap components to get it working, the price of building can't compare with ebay's cheap price. My city sells ATMega 8 IC about US$2.8 and that is almost the price for one ready use USBasp from ebay. Since I have a free time, I don't mind to make USBasp layout just for fun. There are many designs around the internet, but If you want to build it yourself, you may see my layout for your design.

I suggest you just to buy it, because it is not worth your time and money to make this. Have fun and thanks for coming here.

I know, there are already many insects, rodents, or mosquito killer were manufactured, but that is not a problem to build this one. This is just repeller circuit not mosquito or insects killer circuit, which mean you just made the insects or mosquitos fly away from your home and go to another home to get a fresh blood.

No, you are not guilty to build this. Just build it and have fun to see the insects and mosquitos run away from your house. The circuit itself generates sound/frequency that is most insects hate to hear it. You must use a buzzer to generate the sound because your speaker couldn’t do the job.

The output from IC NE555 pin 3 connects to buzzer to generate frequency. The led were used is blinking led to changes the voltages, the changed of voltages at 5th pin NE555 switch the frequency to make insects or rodents can’t build immunity against the ultrasonic tone. You can see my layout or the original one from http://www.danyk.cz/der2_en.html

This is the layout I made.

And the components side to help attach components on the right pins.
Have fun and thank you for coming to my blog.

Well, this is my first layout when I try to learn Eagle CAD software. It is quite a mess. So, bear with me.
The layout itself isn’t really good. Many jumper wires that needed to solder. I made this layout just for fun, sometimes we need a funky led to making our life looks interesting.

This circuit generates flashing light in running pattern. I modify this circuit a little bit from the original one. The original one just has three led to flash and run.  The timer IC is NE555, please don’t use LM7555.
If you wanna build this, here is the schematic, layout and component side which could help to attach components.
